LCC Volleyball Goes 2-2 to Extend Record to 12-5

The LCC Volleyball team headed to Northeastern Junior College this past weekend for the annual NJC Pizza Hut Tournament. With the toughest schedule the team had seen in a few weeks, the lady lopes came out of the weekend with two wins and two losses. This extends their overall record to 12-5. The first match of the weekend was arguably the best the Lopes played, putting up a battle against North Platte Community College and losing in 4 sets 18-25, 22-25, 25-22, and 18-25. The second match of the day the Lopes took on Colorado Northwestern CC for the second time this season. They struggled offensively which took the game to five sets however the lopes pulled ahead with the win in the end. The scores of that match were 25-16, 25-9, 22-25, 22-25, and 15-10. On Saturday, LCC started off with a tough match against #2 nationally ranked Iowa Western CC. Although the Lopes battled hard throughout the first two sets, they managed to drop the match in three scoring 21-25, 19-25, and 18-25. The final match of the weekend LCC took on McCook CC and won in three sets scoring 25-16, 25-19, and 25-22. The offensive leaders for the weekend were freshman Danielle Grace from Aiea, HI hitting .225 with 25 kills, 13 errors, on 57 attempts and freshman Whitney Fay from Albuquerque, NM hitting .222 with 36 kills, 16 errors, on 90 attempts. The defensive leaders were sophomore Michelle Lambayan from Aiea, HI with 77 digs and freshman Jennifer Anderson from Waddell, AZ with 23 digs. Sophomore Schuyler Thompson from Phoenix, AZ and freshman Laiza Silva from Sao Paulo, Brazil had 11 and 10.5 blocks respectively. The Lopes head to the Wyo-Braska Shootout this weekend in Nebraska and Wyoming to face five opponents in two days. They will return on Monday September 27 for a home match against Clarendon College at 7:00 pm after Clarendon takes on Otero JC at 5:00 pm in the LCC Wellness Center.
