ACC Faculty Member Named Outstanding Physical Therapist Assistant for 2010

LITTLETON, Colo. – Arapahoe Community College (ACC) faculty member Jo Ann Beine was recognized as Outstanding Physical Therapist Assistant for 2010 by the American Physical Therapy Association Colorado Chapter. Beine was presented with an award at the chapter’s 20th Annual Fall Symposium on Saturday.

Amy Hammerich, PT, DPT, president of the 1,400-member statewide organization of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and physical therapy students, said Beine exemplifies the best of the best in physical therapy. “Jo Ann is a person who has followed her passion in her career through her own education as well as the education of others both in the classroom and out,” she said. “She is indeed a mentor to all of us in our wonderful profession of physical therapy.”

The Outstanding Physical Therapist Assistant award recognizes a chapter member who has demonstrated excellence in physical therapy and who has made significant contributions to the profession, the community and the Colorado chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Beine has served as a faculty member for ACC’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program since 2005. Beine is a graduate of ACC’s Physical Therapy Assistant Program and has done clinical work in outpatient orthopedics at Select Medical. Beine earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Denver.

Beine currently serves on Board of Directors and as a coach for Girls on the Run of the Rockies. Girls on the Run is a non-profit, after-school program that empowers girls to develop healthy lifestyles – socially, physically, and emotionally. In addition, Beine serves as ACC faculty senate president and as faculty advisor for the Physical Therapy Assistant club.

Beine has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association Colorado Chapter since 1996.

ACC’s Physical Therapy Assistant program is a two-year program ACC has a two-year that includes 59 credit hours of PTA courses and 16 hours of transferable general education courses. Upon completion students earn an Associate of Applied Science Physical Therapist Assistant. The ACC Physical Therapy Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) of the American Physical Therapy Association.
