Colorado Community College System Experiencing Unprecedented Growth

According to research recently compiled by the Colorado Community College System (CCCS), the number of students served by the 13 colleges of CCCS increased 26% over the two  academic years ending on June 30, 2010. This unprecedented growth continued into the Fall 2010 semester, with CCCS colleges serving 9% more students than they were at this same time last year.

In Academic Year 2007-08, CCCS served 107,028 students. CCCS concluded the recent Academic Year 2009-10 having served 134,753 credit students. Consequently, as of this past June, the colleges of CCCS served 27,725 more students than they did two years ago.

“In the past two years, our community college system has absorbed an increase in students the size of the entire resident student body of CSU-Fort Collins or CU-Boulder,” comments CCCS President Dr. Nancy McCallin. “More and more Coloradans have been turning to us to provide an affordable higher education degree for their children and older adults have been enrolling to obtain the skills they need to compete in the 21st century global economy,” she adds. “Finally, options to earn college credits while in high school have expanded recently and younger students are taking advantage of these opportunities in droves.”
