“Race to Nowhere” to Play at ACC Feb. 8

LITTLETON, Colo. – Arapahoe Community College (ACC) will host a screening of “Race to Nowhere,” a documentary that focuses on the academic pressure placed on children in school. The screening will begin at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 in ACC’s Waring Theatre and is sponsored by the Student Affairs Office and the non-profit organization Uniting 4 Kids.

Following the screening, movie-goers will have the opportunity to listen to a one-hour panel discussion about the documentary and its focus. The film draws attention to the silent epidemic in schools: cheating is commonplace, students are disengaged, stress-related illness and depression are rampant, and young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.

“Race to Nowhere” premiered in October 2009 and is currently playing across the country as part of a six month public screening campaign in theaters and semi-theatrical venues.

Those interested in attending the screening may purchase tickets online at http://rtnarapahoecc.eventbrite.com/. Tickets are $10 online or $15 at the door. Seats are limited. Tickets are available for free to 100 ACC students through the Student Affairs Office.

For more information on the screening, contact Student Affairs at 303.797.5668.
