Pueblo Community College Fremont Campus graduate selected for prestigious Nurse of the Year award

CANON CITY The Fremont Campus of Pueblo Community College continues to produce high achievers. The latest is a Jackie Lynn Davis, a May 2008 graduate of the Nursing program here.

Davis was recently selected Nurse of the Year by the Colorado Health Care Association (CHCA). She was selected from among a group of finalists after being nominated by a fellow nurse at the Hildebrand Care Center, where she now works full-time as a Registered Nurse after doing a clinical assignment at the assisted living facility while still a student at the Fremont Campus.

“I was totally surprised to be nominated,” said Davis, noting that it is unusual for a nurse with her work experience (four years) to be considered for such an award. She acquired the necessary three letters of recommendation to be submitted with the nomination application.

“But I didn’t know until the announcement that I had won the award,” she added. That took place at an awards banquet held last month in Denver during the CHCA’s annual conference.

Davis is an Oregon native who moved to Canon City during her junior year of high school and graduated from Canon City High in 2005.

The Fremont Campus’ Nursing program currently has 23 second-year students, 23 first-year students and 11 part-time students.
