Prairie Winter is an on-going project and personal challenge for Hedman who wants to “inspire us to see our surroundings in a fresh way.” For two winters, he has photographed roadside memorials, abandoned homesteads, diners, and snowscapes. According to the artist, “Prairie Winter is 32 landscapes from the Colorado plains, taken in the dead of winter, when the fields are fallow, tractors stored, cattle huddled and most people have sealed up their homes against the wind and snow. This leaves a very stark landscape, beautiful in its simplicity and for the sparseness of color and lack of signs of people.” Additionally, Prairie Winter is a collaboration with area residents, who are invited to respond to a poem by Hedman entitled “Prairie Church”, which can be found online at www.MorganCC.edu/CACE. The responsive artwork, expressing personal impressions of the poem, will exhibit simultaneously with Hedman’s photography at 300 Main Street. For more information about the artist, visit www.KitHedman.com.
