(Lamar, Colorado, February 9, 2012) The Lamar Community College Nursing Program has successfully completed another stage on its journey toward accreditation with the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, Inc. (NLNAC).   Last week, an external review panel evaluated a site review team’s conclusions as well as LCC’s application materials, then gave its conclusion.  The panel recommended the LCC Nursing program to the NLNAC Commission for accreditation.  A majority of colleges that are endorsed by the panel receive accreditation status. A three-part approval process, the NLNAC Commission will meet on March 2 to award accreditation.

An NLNAC site review team visited the LCC campus on September 20-22, 2011.   At the conclusion of the visit, the team reported that LCC and the Nursing program had met or exceeded expectations in all six standards related to excellence in the areas of mission and administrative capacity, faculty & staff, students, curriculum, resources, and outcomes.

“Our LCC Nursing faculty has been driven by this process for more than three years as they have collected data that proves to NLNAC that the program is of high quality.  Once full accreditation status is received, the program will continue to integrate the systematic plan for evaluation to determine opportunities for improvement, so they can be addressed,” commented Dr. Sandy Summers, LCC Nursing program director. “Representation by our nursing students was evidenced during the NLNAC Site Visit in September.  And the overall quality of the LCC and Colorado Community College System administration was evaluated by NLNAC.  They are integral to our department’s success.”

LCC Nursing faculty and staff include Sandy Summers, DNP, FNP-BC; Kathy Henderson, MSN, ANP; Mary Ann Turner, MSN-E,  Nancy Winsor MSN-E; and Nursing Program Admission Coordinator, Mary Lou Myers.
