Geneva Skeels has been at Northeastern Junior College since 1997 when she joined the college as a temporary custodian. In 1998 she was hired full-time by the physical plant as a custodian in the newly constructed Bank of Colorado Event Center on campus. She kept the place completely spotless, setting a perfect example for her peers and winning the hearts of the students, the campus and the community. In November of 2009 she was promoted to the Custodian III level and is now the supervisor of all custodians on campus. Despite huge budget cuts that affected her staff and department, Geneva has been a tireless leader, coping with the challenges that have come with being short staffed coupled with mastering a learning curve tied to budget processes and management. She continually rolls up her sleeves and pitches in when and wherever needed to make sure NJC’s campus is as clean as is manageable with the staff and resources she has available.
