First annual Trick or Trot Race big success

The first annual Trick or Trot Race held at Northeastern Junior College this past Saturday was a good success with just at 40 entries. From the littlest supermen to members of the “home run” baseball club and a dog dresses like a dinosaur, the participants came in costume prepared to have a good time, despite the gray sky overhead.

There were some of the hard-core runners in town at the event and a few walkers who just wanted the morning exercise.

Winners of the various prize categories included: 1 Mile walk/Run: (Children)  Most creative costume: Logan Duffy.  He ran the one mile course in 7:13; Best time: Jaxon McCracken, age 10 (6:17) and Radex McCracken, age 8, (6:30).  Age 20-34: first place went to Tim Duffy (7:25). Age 35-39: first place went to Joel McCracken (6:30) and second place to Justine McCracken (6:35).  50 years and over: first place went to Paulette Ludens (7:13) and second place went to Geri Starner (8:52). Tim Duffy also received the most creative adult costume.

In the 5K run, awards presented were as follows: Most scary adult costume:  Steve Parrish. Most creative adult costume:  Angie Meyers. Time winners were as follows: Child race: Trenton Allen (age 7) 30:52; runners age 20-24: first place went to Mike McClaran (20:40), second place to Angie Meyers (22:30); runners age 35-49: first place to Dale Walker (20.54) and second place to Jill Laybourn (23:33); runners age 50 plus: first place went to Jay Lee (30:24) and second place to Rod McClaran (31:07).

Kari Mueller and the athletic department at NJC were pleased with the turn out considering it was a first year event. They will plan to hold the race again in 2013.

This hairy character was dressed warm for a cool run on Saturday. He (aka Steve Parrish (left)  was chosen as the scariest adult costume.  He did his share of antics, including stealing red dots from the black lady bug, played by Angie Meyers (right), who was not only the fastest female racer of the day when she finished the 5K in 22:30, but also the recipient of the most creative adult costume award.
