LITTLETON, Colo. (Apr. 26, 2013) – Five students from the Arapahoe Community College Automotive Technology Program competed at the 2013 Colorado SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference on Apr. 17-19 at WarrenTech in Lakewood.

ACC students who participated included (employer in parentheses): Brian Gardner (Brandon Dodge on Broadway), Daniel Gilbreath (Firestone), Brian Hall (Schomp BMW), Cory Kenworthy (GO Buick GMC) and Shane Sims (Planet Honda).

The 14-station competition at WarrenTech was comprised of eight ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) components. Three students – Sims (1st place), Hall (2nd place) and Gilbreath (3rd place) – earned medals for their top-three finishes. By virtue of his first-place showing, Sims qualified to represent ACC at the 2013 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, which will take place from June 24-28 in Kansas City, Mo. ACC students have now won first place at the Colorado SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference six times in the past eight years.

Sims, who is now the two-time defending champion (2012 and 2013) in both the District SkillsUSA and Colorado SkillsUSA competitions, placed fifth at the 2012 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference.

Furthermore, ACC’s Doc Viola was selected as the 2012-13 Colorado SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year.
