Report from Equine Instructor about Colorado Northwestern Community College’s Horse Show Success – February 15-16 – in Bllings, MT

I wanted to share with everyone a little about the CNCC IHSA Horse Show Team and their success this weekend in Billings, MT. IHSA stands for Intercollegiate Horse Show Association, it is an organization in which approximately 8,000 students compete nationwide.

There are six levels of IHSA showing for students to compete in. The school that hosts a show provides horses for students to ride so that no student has to own a horse in order to compete. Students are not allowed to ride horses prior to their class and there is a draw system for selecting horses for the riders in each class. Students are evaluated on the rail (and sometimes a pattern is required) on their horsemanship skills and ability to ride and show horses they are not familiar with.

This was the Horse Show Team’s first ever show weekend, in which there were three recognized shows. The class placings are as follows:
Amanda Witcher: 1st, 2nd and 6th
Amber Parmley: 4th, 2nd and 2nd
Courtney Hibbs: 5th, 2nd and 2nd
Jamie Levin: 6th, 5th and 6th
Tasha Gibson: 5th, 7th and 2nd

Thank you for all the support through the building process! The next show is scheduled for fall 2014.

Included is a picture of the team and their winnings.
