Former Trainee of LCC Faculty Member, Marilyn Camarillo, Reaches RFD TV’s The American Rodeo
(Lamar, Colorado; March 11, 2014) Erin Ricotti placed first on February 22 at The American Semifinals in Mesquite, TX with a run of 15.038. Ricotti had the fastest qualifying time going into The American but was unable to secure a place in the Finals. Marilyn Camarillo, LCC Barrel Horse Training and Equine Business Management Faculty, began working with Ricotti at the age of 16.
“Erin’s career has been focused on being a stuntwoman, but she has always run barrel’s as well” stated Camarillo. “This was her opportunity to race on a talented horse and she took advantage of that opportunity.”
The horse Erin was riding is owned by Ruth and Jim Haislip, out of Ruth’s NFR mare Go Royal Scarlett and by the stud AR Star (formerly owned by Ruth, Jim, and Marilyn).
Lamar Community College has been known for its signature Horse Training and Management program for decades. During the fall of 2012 LCC added an Associate of Applied Science in HTM with an Emphasis in Barrel Horse Training under the direction of Marilyn Camarillo. The only degree of its kind in the nation boasts state of the art facilities and training from a true expert in the field.
Camarillo has assisted some of the greatest Barrel Racing competitors including World Champions Charmayne James, Janet Stover, and Jeanna Day Felts. In her own riding career, Marilyn qualified seven times for the National Finals Rodeo on three different horses she trained herself.
