Union and Confederate armies to reenact the 150th anniversary of Battle of the Wilderness
LAKEWOOD, CO – On Thursday, April 10, 2014, Red Rocks Community College’s History Department will be presenting Civil War Day to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of the Wilderness. This event will take place at the Lakewood Campus, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The Union and Confederate military forces will take the field about 1:30 pm. A narrator will provide a historical background of the Battle of the Wilderness, its significance during the 1864 campaign of Generals Grant and Lee, and a description of the battle tactics.
Civil War Day will offer students and the public an opportunity to visit Civil War displays of both Union and Confederate military camps, infantry, cavalry, and artillery. Period civilian displays will also be presented. RRCC faculty will offer mini-lectures on various Civil War topics including medicine, women, physics, business and law. The students and the public can discuss period politics and the election year of 1864 with the Political Science Department, participate in the literature of the period with the English Department, and experience a reenactment of the type of battle that occurred 150th years ago.
