Congratulations to LCC’s 2014 Rising Stars!




(Lamar, Colorado; April 9, 2014) On Tuesday, April 8th the Colorado Community College System held its 2014 Rising Star Recognition Ceremony and Honorary Luncheon at Arapahoe Community College. This annual awards ceremony recognizes outstanding students from all 13 colleges within the System.

Every system college recognizes two students for the award. Lamar Community College was proud to recognize Brenna Cash and Mikaila Martinez as its 2014 Rising Stars.

Brenna Cash is a member of the LCC’s Volleyball team as a setter and defensive specialist. She is a Senator for LCC’s Student Government Association and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. On top of being a 2013-14 Presidential Scholar, Brenna is involved in her community in a variety of ways. She volunteers at the Lamar Animal Sanctuary, has helped at the Toys for Tots Distribution Center, volunteered for the Prowers Partners for Progress in the haunted house, and is a work-study in LCC’s bookstore. Brenna plans to attend CSU-Pueblo in pursuit on a Psychology degree.

Mikaila Martinez is also a member of LCC’s Volleyball team as a middle hitter. She is the Vice President of the LCC Student Government Association and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Mikaila received the Outstanding Student in Chemistry award in 2013 and was the LCC Bookstore Star of the Month in October 2013.Mikaila also volunteered for the Prowers Partners for Progress in the haunted house. Mikaila is being recruited by several Division I schools for volleyball and has not yet selected a school to attend in the Fall of 2014.
